Getting here and around

Buses to Åsele

Route 44, Umeå–Åsele–Dorotea
The trunk route between the coast and the interior. East to Umeå with connections to trains and flights, west to Dorotea and the inland buses along the E45.

Other routes and village buses
Connections to Vilhelmina, Lycksele and the villages, including Fredrika, are easiest to find in the journey planner. Services within the municipality often follow the school calendar.
Trains
Åsele has no railway. The nearest station with daily services is Umeå, from where bus 44 continues. In summer the Inlandsbanan stops in Dorotea, 50 km away.

The tourist train between Östersund and Gällivare stops in Dorotea. From there bus 44 to Åsele.

South Lapland Airport, Vilhelmina
The nearest airport, just over 70 km away. populAir flies Arlanda–Vilhelmina twice a day on weekdays and once on Sundays. Hire car onwards to Åsele.

Umeå Airport
The main alternative, with several daily departures to Stockholm. Bus 44 from Umeå bus station, just over 160 km. Timetable from Swedavia.
Good to know
- The nearest airport is Vilhelmina flygplats (South Lapland Airport), just over 70 km away. Umeå Airport has more departures but is just over 160 km away.
- During the market weekend in July traffic in the town is diverted and the car parks are full. Come early or take the bus.
- The village buses often follow the school calendar. Check the timetable before you travel.
- Timetables normally change in June and December.
