Getting here and around
Åsele lies where national roads 90 and 92 meet, with no railway and no airport. The buses from Umeå, routes 14 and 63, are the trunk routes. Each connection below links to the operator's own timetable, and that is where the times should be read.
Buses to Åsele
The regional buses are run by Länstrafiken i Västerbotten. Plan journeys and see timetables at tabussen.nu, customer service 0771-100 110. Åsele bus station has a waiting room every day from 06 to 21 and ticket sales on weekdays.

Route 14, Vilhelmina–Åsele–Fredrika–Umeå
The trunk route eastwards: from Åsele via Fredrika and Bjurholm to Umeå bus station, with connections to trains and flights. Westwards it continues to Vilhelmina.

Route 63, Östersund–Dorotea–Åsele–Umeå
The long route from Östersund through Strömsund and Dorotea to Åsele and on to Umeå. A second option both towards the coast and towards the interior.

Route 44, Dorotea–Åsele
One morning service on weekdays from Dorotea to Åsele, in practice a school and commuter run. The timetable runs from December 2025 to December 2026.

Åsele bus station
Waiting room every day from 06 to 21, ticket sales and information on weekdays from 07 to 10.30 and from 12 to 15.30. Toilet and parking.

Other routes and village buses
Connections to Vilhelmina, Lycksele and the villages, including Fredrika, are easiest to find in the journey planner. Services within the municipality often follow the school calendar.
Trains
Åsele has no railway. The nearest station with daily services is Umeå, from where bus 14 or 63 continues. In summer the Inlandsbanan stops in Dorotea, 50 km away.

Umeå Central Station
Night and day trains to Stockholm, and the Botniabanan line along the coast. Bus 14 or 63 onwards to Åsele.

Inlandsbanan, summer services via Dorotea
The tourist train between Östersund and Gällivare stops in Dorotea. From there bus 44 on weekday mornings, or route 63, to Åsele.
Flights

South Lapland Airport, Vilhelmina
The nearest airport, just over 70 km away. populAir flies Arlanda–Vilhelmina twice a day on weekdays and once on Sundays. Hire car onwards to Åsele.

Umeå Airport
The main alternative, with several daily departures to Stockholm. Bus 14 or 63 from Umeå bus station, just over 160 km. Timetable from Swedavia.
Good to know
- The nearest airport is Vilhelmina flygplats (South Lapland Airport), just over 70 km away. Umeå Airport has more departures but is just over 160 km away.
- During the market weekend in July traffic in the town is diverted and the car parks are full. Come early or take the bus.
- The village buses often follow the school calendar. Check the timetable before you travel.
- Timetables normally change in June and December.
